A Letter From the Principal |
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965 requires that parents or guardians who have children attending a Title I school be notified of how well their school is preparing its students for college and/or a career, as well as the school’s designation under Georgia’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver.
Under the 2015 renewal of Georgia’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver, certain Title I schools continue to be designated as Reward, Priority, or Focus Schools. The Waiver allows the use of the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) as the comprehensive report card for all schools in Georgia, providing a score between 0-100 for each school—measuring how well the school is doing in preparing its students to be successful in college and/or a career. Waresboro Elementary School received a CCRPI score of 93.2 for the 2014-2015 school year and a 4 star Climate rating.
Waresboro Elementary participated in the Georgia Shape program in 2015-2015 and received the Silver Award. This award recognized elementary, middle, and high schools for their dedication to creating a healthy school environment and a culture of wellness for staff, students, and community. This program is part of the Governor’s Childhood Obesity Initiative.
I am very proud to tell you that Waresboro Elementary has been designated as a High Progress Reward School based on our performance over the past three school years! This is a very big recognition, and we are excited for our school. A High Progress Reward School is earned by making consistent progress on student achievement data for at least three consecutive years. In addition to this high honor, Waresboro is also the recipient of the Silver Award from the Georgia Shape Alliance.
At Waresboro Elementary, we take pride in the teaching we provide for our children. Our teachers and staff members work very hard to meet the needs of all students to ensure they achieve at their highest potential. This recognition shows that students are learning and making good progress. 100% of teachers at Waresboro are highly qualified meaning that they are fully certified to teach by the Georgia Standards Commission and are teaching in their field of certification.
An important part of Waresboro’s success is parent participation and support in developing activities to improve student achievement. We hope that you will become involved in our school improvement work as we continue to monitor student achievement and set high expectations. If you are interested in participating in the development of our school improvement plans, being a part of our family engagement team or have questions about how you can better help your child in school, please contact Melissa Shields, Instructional Coach at 912-287-2393 or [email protected].
Thank you for all that you do to support your child’s education.
Sincerely,
Dr. Jenny Barnes
